Skating Forward

There is no better feeling than whizzing down the ice at full speed. Forwards skating is what most people learn first. For ice hockey, strive to push your legs and skates to the side, ensuring that you're pushing off the inside edges. Since you're moving fowards, your skate will naturally push to the side and behind you. Learn how to take short but quick "steps" (again, pushing outwards) to quickly accelerate.

To imagine this feeling, stand on your feet, then bend at the knees. Feel your thighs tightening? As you push yourself back up to a standing posture, that "push" that you feel is what you should be feeling on the ice. Of course, in order to move forward, your legs must be at an angle, along with your skate blade.

Finally, as you glide, keep your knees bent. This keeps you ready for whatever might happen next.
